We take pride in calling ourselves the “Smile Hi City” because of our friendly attitude towards our friends, neighbors, and visitors.
We are a community that will wave to strangers, start up a conversation waiting in line, we’ll help a stranded motorist, and cheer on our High School sports team – even if we do not have a child playing.
We love our community gatherings and celebrate our youth, history, heritage, and fellow citizens every chance we can.
Finding a career in small town can be a challenge. Through our Economic Development initiatives, regional partnerships, and the Small Business Development Center, we believe in being a small town that creates opportunities for our citizens.
Whether you’re looking for a full-time career, a part-time job, or trying to start your own business in La Junta, we want to be a community that helps provide our citizens and future residents the opportunities they are seeking.
Today, La Junta may be considered a small town but it is full of amenities and recreational opportunities that are missing in much larger towns.
However, we know that this is just the start of a new beginning for our small community. With projects like the Live Well Park, Brick and Tile Park, La Junta’s Strategic Plan, and Main Street La Junta we are committed to the happiness and well-being of our residents and visitors.
La Junta has several organizations dedicated to the success of your business whether you are a local store who has been a part of La Junta for years or a new business looking to relocate or set on business expansion into La Junta.
The past is alive, waiting for it’s story to be told through our historic homes and commercial buildings. Unfortunately, much of this past is slowing fading away through the neglect and deterioration of many significant structures throughout town.
This no longer has to be the case with the formation of our Certified Local Government Board (CLG). Since late 2019, La Junta’s CLG has been assisting residents with preservation projects, sharing information on tax credits, and advising the City on preservation approaches.
Every community has eye-sores waiting to be revitalized and La Junta has our own share of blighted buildings. This is why our Urban Renewal Authority was formed.
La Junta Urban Renewal’s primary function is to assist the city and property owners in elimination and prevention of slums and blighted areas.
Our small businesses are not just the lifeblood of our community, but the heart and soul of our town. Our small businesses are run by our youth coaches, non-profit volunteers, church members, school board members, non-paid city council members – our friends and neighbors.
We believe that small businesses are not just integral parts of our local economy, but essential industries fostering a greater capacity for our community to thrive – economically and spiritually.
